Londonderry, United Kingdom

Stopped at Springhill, a plantation house. Plantation here refers not so much to the agriculture, though that was involved, but to the settling of people from the British mainland, in the hope of squeezing the Irish out. The City of London took 10% of the land in Ulster, for instance, with that land divided (somewhat at random, since surveying was imprecise; the native unit of measurement referred to that land needed to support two families, so in actual area varied hugely depending on the quality of the land) between 12 guilds.

East of the sun, Julia Gregson.
